"Live as if you were to die tomorrow. Learn as if you were to live forever."
Yukihime spars with Touta, curious where his strength lies. She's impressed that he's surpassed his friends and makes note of his natural knack for martial arts. Touta's a bit frustrated he's constantly blocked by Yukihime's barrier, so she offers to teach him an ability called "quick move", but to her surprise, he flat out refuses. He explains the only reason he learned martial arts was to leave the village and now that he's done that, he has no interest in getting stronger. He has a dream bigger than that. His goal with his friends was to gain fame and go as high as he could possibly go, but he closes up to Yukihime about what exactly his dream is.
Touta asks if he'll still be able to attend school as a vampire, but Yukihime informs him school's out since he'll be stuck at the age of 12 for all eternity and unable to grow. Touta, shocked by this news, piles her with questions: will my voice change? Get bald? Wrinkles? Get taller? To his misfortune, each was answered the same: no. He begins to freak out, no longer able to achieve his dream. To cheer him up, Yukihime offers to personally teach him martial arts once again, but instead, he runs off, telling immortality to suck it. She finds his reaction endearing.
Touta grumbles a bit about his situation before seeing a tiny village in the distance. His walk is interrupted by the commotion of a group of children picking on a small figure hidden under a hood. He immediately comes to the stranger's aid and after scaring off the bullying group, he discovers a girl, who's around the same height as he is. When he checks to see how she is, she tells him that he shouldn't have bothered and he discovers that she's been working on a motorbike. She's quite unsocial and ignores Touta, but he continues to persist by asking about it and offering to help. In response, she insults him with short jokes. However, he manages to win her over a bit and helps fix the bike and talk about Touta's surprising skill in mechanics, which he credits to one of his buds.
Meanwhile, the group of kids from before are behind a large rock, just a small distance away, spying on the two. Behind them, a young blonde girl, which Negima fans would recognize as Evangeline, watches Touta amusingly. Touta asks her why the other kids were picking on her and she explains it's because she wants to leave the village and climb the tower. Touta also tells her that he aspires toward the same goal and only let his village a week before, which excites her. They manage to fix the bike and when they test it out, it's able to successfully hovers, which causes the group of kids to awe in surprise. Touta hears them and calls them to come out, but instead of picking on the girl, they inspect and admire her work on the bike. She even tests it out and it runs smoothly as the others watch. Evangeline tells Touta he did a good job, but never having seen this form, he asks who she is, but she doesn't give answer.
As the other children are testing out the bike, Touta takes the opportunity to introduce himself and the girl reveals her name is Shinobu Yuuki, He asks if just climbing the tower is her only goal, but she explains that her dream is to participate in the "Weeklong Grand Solar Race" during the Neo Olympics, held at the top of the tower every eight years. He has a positive reaction, telling her the bigger the dream, the better and that she should do it. The other children call out that it's impossible and Touta's full of hot air, but he shoots them a threatening look and tells them to shut it.
He also explains another friend of his wants to go to the Neo Olympics, but to sing at its ceremony. Touta also explains singing back-up for his friend of one of his own dreams, which of course, the other kids make fun of, but when Shinobu tries to stick up for him, he merely shrugged it off, saying he doesn't care because his friend is amazing. The group of kids continue to insist it's impossible, which brings Shinobu down, saying statistically, only 997/1000 people are actually able to achieve their dreams and it'd be easier to just stay home than sacrificing so much. He tells her that may be true, but everyone's entitled to their own opinion. She goes a bit into her past, revealing she knew a pilot of a cargo ship who wished to race and would tell her stories whenever he came to town, while the other villagers avoided him. This pilot said he'd meet her up on the top of the tower one day, when she caught up to him. He was important to Shinobu, but she explains she didn't see him since and the villagers told her he was probably dead in a ditch somewhere.
Before Touta can respond, he's interrupted by the gaggle of children who are still making fun of his dream and dare him to sing. Chuckling, Touta shouts "Live as if you were to die tomorrow. Learn as if you were to live forever," a saying his friend had taught him. He admits he doesn't have a whole lot going for him, but that he had four amazing friends and a teacher he respects, so with that, he took the saying to heart because what else could he do. He also prepares them for their minds to be blown with his singing as his friend taught him how, so he begins to sing, loud and proud. However, it's soon revealed he is a terrible singer. The crowd begins to insult him, but Shinobu watches him endearingly. Touta insists he just needs practice and it'll be fine when his voice deepens, but his spirit is crushes when he realizes that due to now being a vampire, he'll no longer age.
However, he had little time to mope as one of the kids, who was still messing with the bike, turns it on is unable to navigate it. Shinobu jumps on in an attempt to take control as its steered toward a cliff. She throws the other boy off and she and the bike fly off the cliff. Touta jumps off after her, catches Shinobu is his arms, and uses his foot to push off the terrain to avoid the bike, which crashes at a ledge. He makes sure she lands on him to soften her blow and despite the fall that should have killed an ordinary human, they were both safe. Though he was still able to feel pain, he made note immortality still had its good points, seeing how it made saving lives easier.
A few seconds later, Shinobu begins to regain consciousness and Touta immediately apologizes that he was unable to save her bike, but her main concern is that he's alive and well. After insisting he was fine, she asks if the song he sang before was "What a Wonderful World" by Louis Armstrong, which was apparently the most requested wake-up song during the early days of the space development. Impressed by her knowledge, he insists she's got balls and a real fire in her, telling her she can certainly achieve her dream. Just like the pilot she knew before, Touta says they'll meet again on top of the tower when she catches up to him and she's so touched by his response, tears well in her eyes as she agrees.
They're interrupted by the still-disguised Evangeline, who calls Touta reckless, seeing as he would have died had he not been immortal. Touta, confused by who she might be, once again questions who she was and asks if she's a lost child, but humored by this, she tells him "It's me," several time until he's able to put two and two together. She reveals her age manipulation magic through use of pills and transforms back into the image he recognizes as Yukihime and boasts how she was able to see him with his guard down around her. They bid farewell to Shinobu and the other village kids before returning to their journey to the tower. She asks what his dream is and he explains he wants to go to a bar with his friends and become famous. She questions how he expects to achieve that, but he insists he'll figure it out. Once again endeared, she laughs.
